Peter Uka

Born in 1975 in Nigeria’s Benue state, named after the eponymous river — the “Mother of Waters” — Peter Uka now creates his oil paintings in the lowlands of “Father Rhine” in Germany, where the artist has lived since 2007.

Memories of the past figure prominently in his compositions; they depict his personal sense of nostalgia. In particular, memories of events, people, colours and shapes work together to represent the complexity of identity, personality, environment, and time.

Uka studied respectively at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos and the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. As such his artistic practice connect two continents and countries that are both home for the artist.
