Melanie Richter

German

Melanie Richter was born in Göppingen, Germany, in 1964. She currently lives and works in Düsseldorf and Neuss, Germany. Richter completed her studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1997 (as ‘Meisterschülerin’ with honour). Since then she has exhibited internationally at Art Cologne, Berliner Liste (and Art Karlsruhe), Bridge Art Fair, Miami Beach, Florida, and Art Amsterdam, Kunst Rai, Netherlands, and as a featured artist inprivate collections and public museums. Richter has been awarded several prizes and scholarships (eg. The Art Foundation of the Province of Baden-Württemberg).

Richter’s conceptually focused work is composed of groups of motifs and contains subjects (landscape, object and figure) which, in their painterly representation, lose all ordinariness and gravity and merge into an abstract, colour-intensive pictorial space.

‘Melanie Richter leads us to unseen, timeless pictorial locations, whose pictorial landscape consists solely of the glistening phenomena of colour. In each work, a wide pictorial space opens up, which seems to have its own pulsating expanding and contracting atmosphere and allows the colors themselves to become a spatial phenomenon.’ (Christian Malycha, art historian, Berlin)

‘Her concerns and thoughts about current events are also channeled through her work, which as impressions of reality are then further developed in Richter’s painting. They are given material integrity and become meaningful. It is this process of materializing reflection in painting that gives her work its unique character.’ (Vladimir Vidmar, art historian, Ljubljana)
