Jan Kolata

German

Jan Kolata was born in 1949 in Immenstadt, Germany.

Kolata creates paintings for binocular viewing and multidimensional visual perception. They demand a wondering gaze, to be seen in the moment.
His canvases are formed by pools of paint, creating rivulets and making outlets of colour that expand and grow. Kolata works in an intuitive manner, creating organic-looking planes that hover weightlessly in their pictorial space, allowing the viewer to see into the depths of the painting. This technique enables him create paintings of complex colours, of complementary contrasts, of colours that blend and mix materially and visually, of surfaces and pictorial spaces, of designated and exposed layers of colour, all of which contribute to the overall appearance of his paintings and together let them shine.
